During a Brainspotting session, the therapist guides the client’s gaze to specific eye positions or "brainspots" that are believed to correlate with traumatic memories or unresolved emotional pain. The therapist may use a pointer or ask the client to follow their own natural eye movement to find these brainspots. Once identified, the client maintains their focus on that spot while allowing emotions and sensations to surface naturally. This process helps access parts of the brain that are otherwise difficult to reach through traditional talk therapy.

How Does Brainspotting Work?

Brainspotting leverages the brain’s natural ability to process and release stored trauma. By focusing on a particular "brainspot," the technique activates the subcortical regions of the brain, which are responsible for processing emotions, memories, and bodily sensations. This allows clients to process trauma on a deeper, somatic level, beyond rational thought and language.
